Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions we hear most often, before clients even sit down with us.
Is the initial consultation really free?
Yes. Your first conversation with our firm — whether by phone, video, or in person at our Dalhart office — is free and confidential, with no obligation to retain us afterward.
How are your fees structured?
It depends on the matter. Estate planning, business formation, simple real estate work, and uncontested family law matters are usually handled on a flat fee, quoted in writing before any work begins. Litigation and contested matters are billed hourly, with a clear retainer agreement and monthly invoicing. Personal injury cases are handled on contingency — no fee unless we recover.
Does Fylnis Law Group represent clients outside of Dalhart?
Yes. We are licensed throughout the State of Texas and routinely represent clients in Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa, the Metroplex, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and rural counties. Many matters can be handled remotely; others require travel, which we coordinate as part of the engagement.
What should I bring to my first meeting?
Bring any documents directly related to your matter: prior contracts, court orders, deeds, wills, medical records, correspondence, or photos. If you don’t have something on hand, don’t worry — we’ll help you gather it.
Is my conversation confidential before I hire you?
Yes. Communications made for the purpose of seeking legal advice are protected by the attorney-client privilege even when no fee has been paid and no engagement letter signed.
How long will my case take?
Honest answer: it depends. We give you a realistic timeline at the outset based on the type of matter, the court’s current schedule, and the conduct of the other side. We update you in writing whenever the timeline materially changes.
What happens if my case is outside your areas of practice?
We’ll tell you so plainly and, where we can, refer you to a Texas attorney we trust in the right field. We don’t take cases we are not the right firm to handle.
Do you offer Spanish-language consultations?
Yes, by appointment. Please let us know when you call so we can schedule the right time.
How do I pay invoices?
We accept check, ACH, and most major credit and debit cards. Hourly clients receive an itemized invoice each month showing every task billed.
How do I cancel or end the representation?
You may end the representation at any time in writing. We will provide a final invoice, return any unearned retainer funds, and deliver your file to you or your new counsel promptly.
